Iced Green Tea

While I missed National Iced Tea Day (June 10) I suppose it isn’t too late to share my favorite iced tea recipe for summer sippin.  I know y’all have heard all of the health benefits of green tea, everything from fighting cancer to helping your heart.

The problem is that I can’t stand the taste of green tea on its own, hot or cold.  So I brew up my own iced tea with 2-3 green tea bags and 5-6 other tea bags with flavors like  passion and chamomile to mask the taste of grass.

It is a refreshing way to get the benefits of green tea and keeps me from hitting the diet coke.  You could add some sparkling water or club soda if you miss the bubbles.

Here is what to do:IMG_7318

Simply boil about  4 cups of water, pour your hot water into your pitcher (glass is a good bet that won’t melt) and allow the tea bags to steep for 5 minutes, longer and it may become bitter.IMG_7315

If you like your tea sweet, add 1/2 cup of sugar to your hot water and stir until it dissolves.  I find that passion tea has a naturally sweet flavor that doesn’t need any added sugar.

Allow tea to cool and serve in glasses over ice. Sprigs of mint  or lemon slices make the perfect garnish.


Now if only I had a front porch to sit on….
